ABSTRACT

Conclusion:

Analyses have shown that the IBQ-VSF gives adequate valid and reliable results on Turkish mothers-babies.

Results:

In the construct validity analysisfactor analysis was conducted after Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin (KMO) and Barlett’s tests. To study the reliability of IBQ-VSF, internal consistency of the scale, corrected substance total test correlations and two half test reliability were analyzed. The scale was re-applied to 18 mothers after 30-60 days for test-re-test reliability. Principal components factor analysis with Varimax rotation was used to evaluate the construct validity of IBQ-VSF. In this study, a two-factor structure emerged while there were three-factor structures in the original form of the scale, and it explained 31.1% the observed total variance. Cronbach alpha coefficients for the whole scale was found to be 0.84; alphas for the subscale of positive affectivity (PA) and negative affectivity (NA) were 0.84 and 0.80; respectively. Cronbach alpha values for test-re-test reliability was found to be 0.59 for PA, 0.48 for NA and was statistically significant at 0.05.

Materials and Methods:

A total of 357 mothers, between the ages of 20 and 45 (mean: 30.0, standard deviation: 4.0), years who had 3-12 months of babies (169 girls, 188 boys) were included in the study. Edinburgh Postpartum Depression Scale, Adult Temperament Questionnaire- Short Form, Dyadic Adjustment Scale and Emotional Regulation Questionnaire were used to determine the criterion validity.

Objectives:

In this study, it was aimed to investigate the adaptation of Infant Behaviour Questionnare (IBQ-VSF) which was developed by Mary Rothbart (1981) and simplified by Putnam and his colleagues in 2014, and to examine the validity and reliability of scale.
