ABSTRACT

Objectives:

The purpose of this study is to examine the roles of self-efficacy, self-esteem and parental rejection on the destructive behaviors of adolescents obliged to come to the probation center.

Materials and Methods:

For this purpose, 106 adolescents who came to the probation center for various crimes were assessed. Demographic data form was used to examine the demographic characteristics, Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire for measuring disruptive behaviors, Self-Efficacy Scale for Children to measure self-efficacy, Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale to measure self-esteem, and Parental Acceptance Rejection Scale to measure parental rejection. The roles of self-efficacy, self-esteem, and parental rejection on destructive behaviors were examined using the Stepwise multiple regression analysis.

Results:

Each variable has a significant contribution to predicting destructive behaviors. Self-efficacy was the best predictor of destructive behavior. Self-efficacy was followed by self-esteem and parental rejection, respectively.

Conclusion:

To sum up, examining the predictor variables in juvenile delinquency is important as it will contribute to the development of effective programs to prevent juvenile delinquency and reoffending.
